Art is Therapy

A few weeks ago my best freind came to visit. We wanted to get high and do an art project so we devised (ugh. theatre people.) a plan together.
the project would be finger painting (i didnt want to wash any brushes that night).
color draft - i have a set of 24 cheap acrylic paints that i got from target. We took turns choosing our colors and ended up with 12 each.
mirror each other - sitting on opposite sides of the canvas, we had to try and recreate what the other person was doing, which was very difficult given the whole color draft thing. final product pictured below.

After we painted we discussed. this was a really good exercise in observance, compromise, and being solution oriented. I would get really frustrated every time she would use white because i had no way to really recreate that look (she had black and white). Sometimes i would get petty and use this bright red that she couldnt recreate. i could talk about this painting forever. if we ever fought, i would make us do something like this to force us to make up.
art is a way of connecting, not only through subject but through the process of creating. that is what draws me to theatre - creative collaboration is a rush unlike any other.
